Prayer for our Military

8 11 2014

Gracious Father,

You are our defense and we trust in you. We worship you as our Rock, our Shield, and a very present help in trouble. Time and again when our nation cried out to you, you delivered us from evil. Yet we also read that you use men, women, resources, and weapons “to execute wrath on him who practices evil”. You even called them your “ministers to us for good”. We pray now on the behalf of these ministers of God called collectively, our military.

First of all we pray for peace; may we be a nation of peacemakers. Ever keep us from thoughts of revenge or hatred. May cool heads prevail; may wisdom and reason rule the day. Dear Jehovah Sabaoth when our peace is threatened and our liberty is in jeopardy, help us as a nation to stand in that evil day. Help our military to be trained and quick responders to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
Thank you for the men and women of our armed forces who have seen combat or worked in support when our nation called upon them. Some of them sit with us and pray for peace, for they know the cost of war. Thank you for these Veterans whose character was forged by discipline, tempered by duty, and found faithful in the time of greatest stress.
We pray for the veteran who was crippled in war with a lost limb, blindness, deafness, and other life-long reminders of horror. We pray for those injured by the unseen wounds of the mind; those who suffer from PTSD, TBI, and other neurological disorders. We pray for vets in homeless shelters or out in the street, suffering from wounds they do not understand. Give them comfort, protect them from hunger, cold, and cruelty.
Show favor to our Commander-in-chief, those who make decisions in the Pentagon, our Congress, and Senate. We pray for our generals, admirals, commissioned officers, sergeants, and 18 year old privates. We pray safety for those who are deployed and in harm’s way. Bless our chaplains and their staff with the love, patience, and understanding of Jesus.
Finally we pray for the families. We ask that you grant security to marriages. We pray for the children of the deployed who suffer silently. We pray that the suicide rate wound drop. We pray comfort for the gold star wives, husbands, mothers, and fathers.
We ask this in the name of Jesus,

Amen
