Invocation for D-Day

5 06 2013

O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, we acknowledge your sovereignty in world events.  We come with humble hearts today as we stand in memory of the invasion  June 6, 1944 against a ruthless enemy stronghold. We remember the courage of the soldiers on the beaches of Normandy; Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword. We are in awe of the remarkable victory that came at such a high cost. We stand to honor those who gave their last full measure of devotion.

As flags are placed at grave sites in France of the men who fought and died to liberate Europe from the Nazi regime, let us solemnly be reminded of the cost of freedom. Dear God, as we contemplate this date 69 years ago, we can almost hear the prayers of General Eisenhower as well as that Private on the first landing craft to rumble on to Omaha beach. We know that you heard every one, even those who passed through the valley of the shadow of death. We thank you for your grace to help in their time of need. We thank you for the freedom still available today because of their sacrifice on that day.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
