The Cross

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

The cross is more than just a symbol, it is a reality. To preach the cross is to preach Christ and Him crucified. The cross is foolishness to those who have not humbled themselves before it but for the those who have come to grips with its reality, it is powerful and life changing. Let me share a few descriptions of the cross, realizing that one could not say enough. Perhaps you could reply with a description that speaks to you personally. The cross is personal. I hope these words could be a jump-start in your process of meditation upon this liberating truth.

1. The cross was God’s platform to display the Savior.
2. The cross was an altar on which the Lamb of God was sacrificed.
3. The cross was the battlefield chosen by God to meet the enemy.
4. The cross was a gift where our debt was paid and His grace was offered.
5. The cross was an immovable cornerstone in the history of man.
6. The cross was the intersection of time and eternity.
7. The cross was where the Creator died at the hands of His creation, for their benefit.
8. The cross was Satan’s greatest error, heaven’s greatest sacrifice, and man’s greatest hope.
9. The cross is a launching pad by which we exalt the Savior.
10. The cross was God’s only and irrevocable settlement for our sin.
11. The cross was God’s last memory of sin that He had for those who trusted Him.
12. The cross made Hell to tremble. the world to wonder, heaven to stop, and the angels to stand down.
13. The cross offers life, peace, healing, strength, joy, hope, and holiness.
