Your Situation

19 09 2012

I received a phone message the other day that was rather interesting. It was a Christian prayer ministry that wanted to be in prayer about my “situation”. Perhaps someone submitted my name or it could have even been random because they never defined the “situation”. It got me to think. We all have a “situation” that needs prayer. Some situations involve urgent circumstances like a surgery, some involve practical direction like wisdom in making a decision, some are personal struggles that are too private to mention, but all of us have a “situation”. Behind every face we see today is a “situation”. You may never know the burden that person is carrying, but it is real and is in desperate need of prayer.

I used to have a pastor that had the philosophy, “be good to everyone, because everyone is having a tough day”. Maybe you would think that statement to be extreme, but you may never realize the depth of a person’s “situation”. Many suffer alone.

We can not pray for everyone, every “situation”, but we can be more conscious of the pain carried by those around us. Perhaps you could take one person a day within your sphere of influence or among those you see everyday, and pray for their “situation”. You could take time to listen to them during a lunch break, or write a brief note on an index card that you prayed for them that day. If the person is not a believer they will at least appreciate the concern you show.

We get so caught up in our own “situation” that we sometimes need to be reminded that other people also need our attention. It is what Jesus would do.

Philippians 2:4
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
