Nothing Like It!

7 07 2012

It’s been a week since being the main speaker at Senior High camp and three weeks until I take a van full of teens to Junior High camp. It’s a lot of work but I have been a big-time camp enthusiast for about 25 years. There is nothing like church camp. It is a time of getting away from I-pods, MP 3’s, radio, TV, social networking, computers, cell phones, friends with lots of bad ideas, pressures from culture, parents and siblings. It is a time of connecting with God, having clean fun, making friends, feeling loved, and establishing habits that would be beneficial in a person’s life. On Monday the campers are strangers, on Saturday they are family.

The campers, counselors, staff, teachings, events, games, and even issues good or bad, make each camp unique and unable to be copied ever again. It is an experience that will not be easily forgotten. Many tell me about a particular camp that was a turning point for them in their life. They came to the proverbial fork in the road and found church camp exactly what they needed.

I encourage you to send your child to camp or perhaps sponsor a camper who can not come up with the fee. It would be an investment in a life that will reap dividends beyond what any could imagine.
