“WHEN THE DARKNESS WILL NOT LIFT”

19 04 2010

Depression is nothing new. Mankind have been struggling with it since the Fall in the garden of Eden. Too often we comfort people with empty platitudes and unhelpful solutions. If we are the ones in despair, we may struggle with guilt or the feeling of hopelessness. In his book, “When the Darkness Will Not Lift”, John Piper tries to look at the big picture of what used to be called “melancholy”. He gives examples along with many helpful spiritual principles. He does not stand in condemnation of those suffering from depression, but approaches the subject with compassion. The book has good news for those who seemed trapped in depression and the ones who seek to help them. It’s a short book, but well worth the read.
