I was asked this question twice in the past two weeks by two different teens. It was not cynical, but sincere. I guess eternity is a hard thing to grasp; or is it? When we look at the “Big Bang” theory of evolution, why do we not question the eternality of the huge glob of matter that somehow exploded? If asked when the universe will end, there is no explanation other than it will keep going on forever. Even when our sun burns out, the universe does not end. Sure, we all believe in eternity. I’d rather put my faith in a loving and all-wise God who was never born. Putting my faith in mindless matter that never had a beginning and will not have an end, just doesn’t do it for me.
